ahoy, me hearties!

In case you weren't aware(which is likely) tomorrow, Monday September 19th, is INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY 2005!!!

I will of course be celebrating with a full 24 hours of piratespeak. In case you feel your piratespeak is lacking, I have, for your convenience, brought you the following common pirate phrases directly from the official ITLAPD website:

Ahoy! - "Hello!"

Avast! - Stop and give attention. It can be used in a sense of surprise, "Whoa! Get a load of that!" which today makes it more of a "Check it out" or "No way!" or "Get off!"

Aye! - "Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did."

Aye aye! - "I'll get right on that sir, as soon as my break is over."

Arrr! - This one is often confused with arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you sit on a belaying pin. "Arrr!" can mean, variously, "yes," "I agree," "I'm happy," "I'm enjoying this beer," "My team is going to win it all," "I saw that television show, it sucked!" and "That was a clever remark you or I just made." And those are just a few of the myriad possibilities of Arrr!

And those there are only a few of the many well known pirate phrases. Be sure to stop by the site for some more advanced lingo to throw out there to impress your friends.

It's too bad I'm back at school or Pumba and I might have to fit our seafaring vessel with a black pirate flag and sail the one sea with eyepatches and peglegs and parrots and cannons and cannonballs to go with and some good old non-alcoholic rum.

This message is officially and forever supported by the best able seamen I've ever had the privelege of serving with, my good friend and companion, Pedro.

I LOVE PEDRO

EDIT: INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY 2005 has come and gone, with pirate lingo being sputtered from the mouths of landlubbers everywhere, myself included. Only 364 more days until ITLAPD 2006!

seafaringly,

Sam
